1959 Chicago Cubs vs LA Dodgers - 2 BALLS IN PLAY Original News Photo Type 1

In the heydey of the daffy Dodgers, fans might not have been surprised to see two baseballs in play at the same time in Brooklyn's Ebbetts Field. But who would have though this could occur in ivyed Wrigley Field? Sun-Times photographer Bill Sturm and an Associated Press cameraman shot pictures of this scene from approximately the same angle a split second apart. One ball was just out of Sturm's camera range; the AP man narrowly missed the other. This combination of the two photos recaptures the unique action that confused Cubs, Cardinals, fans and the umpires Tuesday.
