BIO: Walter Dropo (Moose) was born in 1923 in Moosup, CT and died in 2010 in Peabody, MA. He went to college at the University of Connecticut. He played major league baseball from 1949 to 1961 as 1st baseman for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles, and was selected in 1950 as an All-Star. Dropo was a three sport athlete at the University of Connecticut, AND was drafted by the Chicago Bears of the NFL in 1946 and the Providence Steam Rollers of the BAA (precursor of the NBA) in 1947 before signing with the Boston Red Sox on June 17, 1947. He was the 1950 American League Rookie of the Year.
