COMMENTS / CONDITION: Original personal check from the estate of Thurman Munson. Issued by the United Jersey Bank of NJ, this personal check bears the printed name "THURMAN L. MUNSON" as well as that of his wife Diana. The checks feature the printed address of the Munson's New Jersey home. In the interest of preserving the integrity of the unused checks, and to insure against fraudulent use, the check has been lightly impressed with a raised seal by Hunt Auctions. Originates from the estate of Thurman Munson and comes with a copy of the auction house group Letter of Provenance (LOP) signed by Diana Munson verifying the item's origin.

BIO: Thurman Lee Munson (Tugboat, Squatty Body, The Wall) was born in 1947 in Akron, OH and died in 1979 in Canton, OH. He went to college at Kent State University. He played major league baseball from 1969 to 1979 as catcher for the New York Yankees, appeared in the 1976, 1977 and 1978 World Series, and was selected 7 times as an All-Star. Munson was the 1970 American League Rookie of the Year, and was named American League MVP in 1976. He earned 3 Gold Glove Awards as a catcher. Munson's career was prematurely ended when he was killed piloting his private plane on August 2, 1979. In 1989 the city of Canton, OH named their new ballpark after him, calling it Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium.
