NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Red Ruffing, pictured in his New York Yankees uniform circa 1931-46. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1931-46, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Charles Herbert Ruffing was born in Granville, IL and died in 986 in Mayfield Hts., OH. He played major league baseball from 924 to 947 as pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and a single season with the Chicago White Sox, appeared in the 932, 936, 937, 938, 939, 94 and 942 World Series, was selected 6 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 967. After missing the 943 and 944 seasons due to the war, Ruffing was unable to regain his ace material upon returning in 945. After moving to the Chicago White Sox in 947, he retired. A museum in Nokomis, Illinois is dedicated to Ruffing and Hall of Famers Ray Schalk and Jim Bottomley. SKU: GB11257
