BIO: William Beck Nicholson (Swish) was born in Chestertown, MD and died in 1996 in Chestertown, MD. He went to college at Washington College. He played major league baseball from 1936 to 1953 as outfielder for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies, appeared in the 1945 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. In 1944, Nicholson received an intentional walk with the bases loaded. He is listed as one of only six players in major league history to do it. Nicknamed "Swish" because of his mighty swing, which often missed the ball, Nicholson twice led the National League in home runs and RBI.
