Albert Wentworth Demaree was born in 1884 in Quincy, IL and died in 1962 in Los Angeles, CA. He played major league baseball from 1912 to 1919 as pitcher for the New York Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and the Boston Braves, and appeared in the 1913 World Series. Al Demaree was a sports cartoonist after his playing career; he was syndicated in more than 200 papers at one time. The Sporting News used his cartoons for 30 years. He retired from his cartoons in 1952. Shortly before his death he was robbed of $1100 in savings and died penniless. SKU: GBNHY0007
