He played negro league baseball from 1943 to 1947 as pitcher for the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Newark Eagles. Nap Gulley played baseball in the Negro Leagues in 1946 for the Seattle Steelheads and in 1948 for the Harlem Globetrotters, and continued to play with other minor league teams through 1956.
