He went to college at Miami University. He played major league baseball for a single season in a single game in 1936 as 1st baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983. A reporter once asked Alston about his playing record; he said, "Well, I came up to bat for the Cards back in '36, and Lon Warneke struck me out. That's it." Alston went on to manage the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers from 1954 to 1976. As a manager, Alston was noted for his studious approach to the game (he had taught school in the off-season while in the minors) and for signing 23 one-year contracts with the Dodgers at a time when multi-year contracts were becoming the norm in the sport. Charles Walter Dressen was born in 1898 in Decatur, IL and died in 1966 in Detroit, MI. He played major league baseball from 1925 to 1933 as infielder for the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Giants. Dressen played as a quarterback for George Halas in the American Professional Football Association, prior to its name-change to the NFL, and then played a couple more seasons in the NFL. Dressen managed the 1934-37 Cincinnati Reds, 1951-53 Brooklyn Dodgers, 1955-57 Washington Senators, 1960-61 Milwaukee Braves and the 1963-66 Detroit Tigers. He was a Brooklyn Dodgers coach from 1939 to 1946 and a member of the New York Yankees staff in 1947 and 1948. Ronald Kenneth Hunt was born in 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He played major league baseball from 1963 to 1974 as 2nd and 3rd baseman for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Montreal Expos and the St. Louis Cardinals, and was selected in 1964 and 1966 as an All-Star. Ron Hunt had a decent batting average during the deadball era of the 1960's and 1970's, but he is most famous for getting plunked by the pitch. He led the league in hit-by-pitch seven times in a row, and was second in the league in that category two other times. Hunt's 50 hit-by-pitches in 1971 are the highest season total in the 20th Century, only trailing Hughie Jennings' 51 in 1896 on the all-time list. When Hunt posted his total, Jennings was credited with only 49 hit-by-pitches that season, meaning that Hunt was celebrated for a while as the all-time record holder. Years later, further research credited Jennings with two more instances in 1896, giving him back the record. But if Hunt had known the record would eventually be 51, he doubtless would have found a way to step into the path of a couple more curve balls to pass Jennings. Robert Dean Lee (Moose, Horse) was born in 1937 in Ottumwa, IA and died in 2020 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He played major league baseball from 1964 to 1968 as pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, California Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds. SKU: L15114
