COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Johnny Hudson, pictured in his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform circa 1937. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1937, but this blank-backed postcard was produced some time later by George Brace. BIO: John Wilson Hudson (Mr. Chips) was born in 1912 in Bryan, TX and died in 1970 in Bryan, TX. He played major league baseball from 1936 to 1945 as infielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and the New York Giants. Hudson was with Montreal in 1941 and tried for a slot with Nashville in 1946 but ended up accepting a job as player-manager for Jacksonville. He managed the Jacksonville Tars (1946-1948) and was a scout for the New York Giants (1949-1957) and San Francisco Giants (1958-1970). He played in the first night game at Ebbetts Field in 1938. He was nicknamed ''Mr. Chips'' because he was considered a good guy to have around when the chips were down.
