The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1936, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: John Thomas Allen was born in Lenoir, NC and died in 959 in St.Petersburg, FL. He played major league baseball from 932 to 944 as pitcher for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, Brooklyn Dodgers, and the New York Giants, appeared in the 932 and 94 World Series, and was selected in 938 as an All-Star. He became a minor league umpire after retiring, eventually becoming the umpire-in-chief of the Carolina League. SKU: GB12309
