DATE: 1938 ORIGINAL or REPRINT: Type 1 Original - Printed from the original negative within about 2 years of when it was shot TEAM: Chicago White Sox SUBJECT: Joe Kuhel APPROXIMATE SIZE: 5"x7" NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 5"x7" original vintage photo of Joe Kuhel, pictured in his Chicago White Sox uniform circa 1938. One of a collection of thirty Type 1 original period photos to be offered this week. Each bears the stamping of Apex Photograph Company on the verso, with several also having the stamping of the American League Service Bureau as well. Mose (all?) appear to be photos taken by Chicago photographer George Burke, but I have not done the extensive image searching necessary to confirm, so please just consider that a possibility for your own future research. Guaranteed to be a vintage, original photograph, not a modern day reproduction. See scans for further details including condition and stamping. BIO: Joseph Anthony Kuhel was born in Cleveland, OH and died in 1984 in Kansas City, KS. He played major league baseball from 1930 to 1947 as 1st baseman for the Washington Senators and the Chicago White Sox, and appeared in the 1933 World Series. Kuhel was the best defensive first baseman in the American League during the 1930s, but also was an inconsistent player who struggled with injuries most of his career. Hampered by playing in Griffith Stadium most of his career, his power numbers were never as good as they may have been in a less unpleasant hitters park. SKU: X11101
