One of a collection of thirty Type 1 original period photos to be offered this week. Each bears the stamping of Apex Photograph Company on the verso, with several also having the stamping of the American League Service Bureau as well. Guaranteed to be a vintage, original photograph, not a modern day reproduction. See scans for further details including condition and stamping. BIO: Joseph Walton Haynes was born in 1917 in Lincolnton, GA and died in 1967 in Hopkins, MN. He played major league baseball from 1939 to 1952 as pitcher for the Washington Senators and the Chicago White Sox, and was selected in 1948 as an All-Star. As a member of the Griffith family, Haynes remained in the Washington organization after his playing career ended. He served as the club's pitching coach from 1953-55, then moved into the front office as executive vice president, working with his brother-in-law Calvin Griffith in Washington and after the team moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul as the Minnesota Twins in 1961.
