NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Joe Becker, pictured in his Cleveland Indians uniform circa 1936. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1936, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Joseph Edward Becker was born in St. Louis, MO and died in 998 in Sunset Hills, MO. He played major league baseball from 936 to 937 as catcher for the Cleveland Indians. After serving in the Navy during World War II he managed in the minors for several years, including stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jersey City Giants and Charleston Senators. Between 955 and 970, he was a pitching coach in the National League for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs. A member of the relatively small fraternity of former catchers who excelled as a pitching tutor (including men such as Ray Berres, Dave Duncan and Mike Roarke), Becker coached for four NL championship Dodger clubs, including the 955, 959 and 963 world champions.
