BIO: Jerome A. Neudecker was born in 1930 in Marine, IL and died in 1997 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Jerry Neudecker was an umpire in the Georgia-Alabama League (1950), Evangeline League (1951), South Atlantic League (1956), Georgia-Florida League (1957), Sally League again (1960-1962), and Southern League (1963-1965). From 1951 to 1955, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was then an American League umpire from 1966 to 1985, working over 3,000 games. He called three All-Star Games (1966, 1972 and 1976) and two World Series (1973 and 1979). Neudecker is best remembered for being the last umpire to use a balloon (outside) chest protector.
