BIO: Jack Erwin Russell was born in 1905 in Paris, TX and died in 1990 in Clearwater, FL. He played major league baseball from 1926 to 1940 as pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals, appeared in the 1933 and 1938 World Series, and was selected in 1934 as an All-Star. Russell was the first relief pitcher to be named to an All-Star Team, when he was chosen to represent the Washington Senators in 1934. After a fifteen-year major league career, Jack Russell settled in Clearwater, FL and became instrumental in the fund-raising to build the stadium which served as the spring training home for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1955 to 2003, when the Phillies moved their spring training camp to the new Bright House Networks Field, also in Clearwater. The stadium was named Jack Russell Memorial Stadium. SKU: GB12501
