NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Howie Pollet, pictured in his St. Louis Cardinals uniform circa 1941. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1941, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Howard Joseph Pollet was born in New Orleans, LA and died in 1974 in Houston, TX. He played major league baseball from 1941 to 1956 as pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox, appeared in the 1942 and 1946 World Series, and was selected 3 times as an All-Star. Pollet returned to the field in 1959 as the Cardinals' pitching coach, serving through 1964. In his last season there, St. Louis won the world championship. He then moved back to his adopted city of Houston, Texas in 1965, serving as pitching coach of the Astros for one season. Pollet was a partner of his Buffaloes manager and former Cardinal pilot Eddie Dyer in insurance, real estate and energy businesses in Houston. He retired from baseball and resumed his business career after the 1965 season. SKU: GB12496
