NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Gilly Campbell, pictured in his Cincinnati Reds uniform circa 1936. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1936, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: William Gilthorpe Campbell was born in 908 in Kansas City, KS and died in 973 in Los Angeles, CA. He played major league baseball from 933 to 938 as catcher for the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played in the first night baseball game in the majors, in May 935. Campbell had played for Monroe, Beaumont, Shreveport, El Dorado and Memphis from 927 through 930. He played for the Los Angeles Angels in 93, 932, and 934. He played for Syracuse in 937 and for Seattle in 939-4, came back to the Angels in the middle of 94 and stayed in 942, and played for Louisville, Memphis, Portland, and Oakland in 943 and 944. While with the Angels, he had a small role in the movie "Pride of the Yankees". SKU: GB10687
