BIO: Eric Gordon Tipton (Dukie and Blue Devil) was born in Petersburg, VA and died in 2001 in Newport News, VA. He went to college at Duke University. He played major league baseball from 1939 to 1945 as outfielder for the Philadelphia Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds. Also known as a college football player, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1965.
