NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Elden Auker, pictured in his Detroit Tigers uniform circa 1935-36. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1935-36, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Elden Le Roy Auker (Submarine or Big Six) was born in Norcatur, KS and died in 2006 in Vero Beach, FL. He went to college at Kansas State University. He played major league baseball from 933 to 942 as pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Browns, and appeared in the 934 and 935 World Series. Auker appeared at the last game played at Tiger Stadium on September 27, 999. Auker spoke at the ceremony and told the crowd: “Never forget us, for we live on by those that carry on the Tiger tradition and who so proudly wear the olde English D.” SKU: GB10249
