BIO: Donald Arthur Mattingly (Donnie Baseball) was born in 1961 in Evansville, IN. He played major league baseball from 1982 to 1995 as 1st baseman for the New York Yankees, and was selected 6 times as an All-Star. Mattingly was the 1985 Major League Player of the Year, and earned 9 Gold Glove Awards and 3 Silver Slugger Awards at 1st base over the course of his major league career. He was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. His brother, Randy Mattingly, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 4th round of the 1973 NFL draft, then played in the CFL from 1974 to 1976. Don has three sons. His oldest son Taylor Mattingly was drafted by the Yankees in the 42nd round of the 2003 amateur draft. His middle son, Preston Mattingly, was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1st round of the 2006 amateur draft.
