BIO: Paul Howard Trout was born in Sandcut, IN and died in 972 in Harvey, IL. He played major league baseball from 939 to 957 as pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, appeared in the 940 and 945 World Series, and was selected 2 times as an All-Star. He was the father of Steve Trout. After retiring from baseball, Trout called the play-by-play for the Tigers on radio WKMH and TV WJBK-TV from 953-955. He also hosted The Knot-Hole Gang, a sports show aimed at children. Trout broadcast the Tigers games with Van Patrick and became popular with Detroit fans for his self-effacting humor, scrambled syntax, and folksy demeanor. In 956, Trout ran unsuccessfully for Sheriff in Wayne County as a Republican, losing to long-time incumbent Andrew C. Baird. He attempted a return to baseball with the Baltimore Orioles in 957 at age 42. Trout made two appearances, allowed 3 earned runs, and only retired a single batter, for an unflattering 8.00 ERA that year.
