NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Dick Siebert, pictured in his Philadelphia Athletics uniform circa 1938-45. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1938-45, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Richard Walther Siebert was born in Fall River, MA and died in 1978 in Minneapolis, MN. He went to college at Concordia University. He played major league baseball from 1932 to 1945 as 1st baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Athletics, and was selected in 1943 as an All-Star. Following his playing career, Siebert became head baseball coach at the University of Minnesota, leading the team to College World Series titles in 1956, 1960 and 1964. The Gopher baseball stadium Siebert Field is named for him. In addition to coaching the Minnesota Gophers, during the 1950s Siebert was a player/coach for the Litchfield Otimists, the Willmar Rails, and the Minneapolis Kopps Realty teams in Minnesota amateur Town Team Baseball. This arrangement allowed Siebert to evaluate talent and coach his Gophers players during the collegiate off-season. SKU: GB12966
