BIO: Richard Morrow Groat was born in 1930 in Wilkinsburg, PA and died in 2023 in Pittsburgh, PA. He went to college at Duke University. He played major league baseball from 1952 to 1967 as shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants, appeared in the 1960 and 1964 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. Groat was the 1960 National League MVP.
