BIO: Richard Roy Cole was born in 1926 in Long Beach, CA and died in 2018 in Costa Mesa, CA. He played major league baseball from 1951 to 1957 as infielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Braves. One of the few bespectacled players of the period, Infielder Dick Cole was just 17 when he began his playing career with the Sacramento Solons in the Pacific Coast League in 1943. After his playing career ended, Dick managed in the Mets organization in the early 1960's and was a Chicago Cubs coach in 1961. Cole then joined baseball's Central Scouting Bureau, now called the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau. Cole was a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1970 to 1974, earning the title of Scouting Supervisor the last three years. A resident of Costa Mesa, CA, he continues to scout for the San Francisco Giants in southern California.
