NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Coaker Triplett, pictured in his St. Louis Cardinals uniform circa 1941. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1941, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Herman Coaker Triplett was born in Boone, NC and died in 1992 in Boone, NC. He went to college at Appalachian State University. He played major league baseball from 1938 to 1945 as outfielder for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. Triplett resumed his baseball career with the Buffalo Bisons of the International League , hitting .306 in 1946, .315 in 1947, and .353 in 1948 to win the league batting title. He added 22 home runs in 1949 and a .337 average in 1950. The next year, he replaced Specs Toporcer as Buffalo's manager during the midseason, as Toporcer's eyesight had declined. SKU: GB12513
