NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Clay Smith, pictured in his Detroit Tigers uniform circa 1940. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1940, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Clay Jamieson Smith was born in 1914 in Cambridge, KS and died in 2002 in Winfield, KS. He went to college at Southwestern College. He played major league baseball from 1938 to 1940 in a total of 19 games as pitcher for the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers, and appeared in the 1940 World Series. After baseball he was a rancher and mail carrier. He had a farm north of Cambridge and retired from farming in 1985. He is in the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame. SKU: GB12837
