NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Bud Stewart, pictured in his Pittsburgh Pirates uniform circa 1941. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1941, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Edward Perry Stewart was born in 1916 in Sacramento, CA and died in 2000 in Palo Alto, CA. He went to college at the University of California, Los Angeles. He played major league baseball from 1941 to 1954 as outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Washington Senators and the Chicago White Sox. Stewart had been a high school physical education teacher during the off seasons and also worked as an extra in movies. He appeared in The Stratton Story and in the fictional Frank Merriwell serials. After baseball he worked for North American Aviation, which is now Rockwell International, for 18 years. From 1972 until he retired in 1981 he was the Director of City Parks in Hawthorne, CA.
