BIO: Derrel McKinley Harrelson was born in 1944 in Niles, CA and died in 2024 in East Northport, NY. He went to college at San Francisco State University. He played major league baseball from 1965 to 1980 as shortstop and 2nd baseman for the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers, appeared in the 1969 and 1973 World Series, and was selected in 1970 and 1971 as an All-Star. Harrelson was a Mets coach in 1982 and after a stint managing in the minors returned to their staff in 1985. He replaced Davey Johnson as the team's manager in 1990 but remained at the helm for less than two years. He managed the independent Long Island Ducks in 2000 and has been a member of the team's coaching staff ever since then. He is also a part-owner of the club.
