With 37 big league seasons under his belt when he retired, he was tied with Bill Klem in service as an umpire, and his 5,163 games were second only to Klem, who had 5,370. He began his career in the minor leagues in 1958, giving him 48 seasons as a professional umpire. It would have been 50, but there was a gap in his service time from 1961-1962. Froemming was an umpire in the Nebraska State League (1958), Northern League (1959-1960), Northwest League (1963), Texas League (1965-June 1966), and Pacific Coast League (June, 1966-1970), before joining the National League staff in 1971. He became a crew chief in 1988. After his retirement, he became an umpiring supervisor for Major League Baseball and minor league umpiring instructor. SKU: CL02419
