He went to college at San Jose State University. He played major league baseball from 1987 to 2001 as 3rd baseman for the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers and the Atlanta Braves, appeared in the 1998 World Series, and was selected 3 times as an All-Star.
