He played major league baseball from 1984 to 1998 as outfielder for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics, appeared in the 1986 and 1989 World Series, and was selected in 1989 and 1990 as an All-Star.
