BIO: Richard Dalton Howser was born in 1936 in Miami, FL and died in 1987 in Kansas City, MO. He went to college at Florida State University. He played major league baseball from 1961 to 1968 as infielder for the Kansas City Athletics, Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees, and was selected in 1961 as an All-Star. After his playing career ended, Dick Howser spent a decade as a New York Yankees coach. After spending 1980 as the Yankees manager, he became the Kansas City Royals skipper in 1981 and led the Royals to a victory in the 1985 World Series. Tragically, Howser died from a brain tumor in 1987 at age 51.
