He played major league baseball from 1981 to 1997 as 2nd and 3rd baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies (13 games) and the Chicago Cubs, was selected 10 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. Ryne Sandberg (named after Ryne Duren) earned National League MVP honors in 1984, and was also named Major League Player of the Year that year.
