He went to college at the University of Kentucky. He played professional football from 1949 to 1975 as quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Colts, Houston Oilers and the Oakland Raiders, was a 4-time Pro-Bowler, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1981.
