If you have any questions about a particular piece, please ask before the auction ends. BIO: John Beasley Brickhouse was born in 1916 in Peoria, IL and died in 1998. The legendary sportscaster began his career at WMBD/Peoria in 1934. At age 18, Brickhouse was the youngest announcer in the nation. With the help of sportscaster Bob Elston, he landed a job with WGN/Chicago in 1940. While at WGN, Brickhouse was the voice for both the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, and he also spent 24 consecutive seasons as play-by-play voice of the Chicago Bears along with friend and colleague Irv Kupcinet. Brickhouse was also heard nationally describing four World Series, five All Star Games and three NFL championship games. In addition, he brought wrestling into America's living rooms as ringside announcer on the DuMont Television Network. Although primarily known for his sportscasts, Brickhouse covered big band remotes, political conventions and presidential inaugurations. In the 1960s, he hosted Jack Brickhouse Reports on WGN which featured interviews with entertainers, athletes, politicians and authors. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1998. Leo Ernest Durocher (The Lip) was born in West Springfield, MA and died in 1991 in Palm Springs, CA. He played major league baseball from 1925 to 1945 as shortstop for the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and the Brooklyn Dodgers, appeared in the 1928 and 1934 World Series, was selected 3 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. Durocher managed the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1939-46 and 1948, the New York Giants from 1948-55, the Chicago Cubs from 1966-72, and the Houston Astros from 1972-73. SKU: XP12924
