DRAWING RAVE NOTICESPete Burnside, Detroit Tigers pitcher who was bought conditionally from San Francisco and has until May 10 to prove himself, is drawing raves from his manager and writers after his 29 innings of pitching in five exhibition games this spring. He is the only Tiger pitcher to go a full nine inning game. The Dartsmouth graduate has received credit for 3 wins and no losses. At Phoenix last year Pete won 11 and lost 7 games.

BIO: Peter Willits Burnside was born in 1930 in Evanston, IL and died in 2022 in Wilmette, IL. He played major league baseball from 1955 to 1963 as pitcher for the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators and the Baltimore Orioles. After retiring from the American game, Pete was in Nippon Pro Baseball for a couple of seasons. Following that he obtained his master's degree at Northwestern University and was a teacher and coach at New Trier High School in Wilmette, IL for 26 years, retiring in 1994.
