BIO: Robert James Wilson was born in 1929 in Milwaukee, WI and died in 2014 in Madison, WI. He played major league baseball from 1951 to 1960 as catcher for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians.
Edward Raymond Fitz Gerald was born in 1924 in Santa Ynez, CA and died in 2020 in Folsom, CA. He played major league baseball from 1948 to 1959 as catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Senators and the Cleveland Indians. Catcher Ed Fitz Gerald ended his college career when he was drafted into the Army in 1943, serving in the Aleutian Islands and Germany in World War II. He returned stateside in 1946, signing a contract with the Sacramento Solons, where his college coach Earl Sheely was now working. FitzGerald played a dozen years in the majors, and following his playing days, he was an Indians coach in 1960, a Kansas City Athletics coach in 1961, and a member of the Minnesota Twins staff from 1962 to 1964. He then managed the Fresno Giants in 1965 and 1966.
Jacob Nelson Fox was born in 1927 in St. Thomas, PA and died in 1975 in Baltimore, MD. He played major league baseball from 1947 to 1965 as 2nd baseman for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox and the Houston Colt .45's/Astros, appeared in the 1959 World Series, was selected 12 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997. Fox was the 1959 American League MVP. Fox was not selected to the Hall of Fame in his initial period of eligibility. In 1985, Fox came within two votes of election to the Hall of Fame. Since it was his last year on the writers' ballot, he had to wait twelve more years before finally being elected by the Committee on Baseball Veterans. During the 1990's, his candidacy for the Hall became a popular movement in Chicago.
