If you have any questions about a particular piece, please ask before the auction ends. BIO: Warren Crandall Giles was born in 1896 in Tiskilwa, IL and died in 1979 in Cincinnati, OH. Warren Giles started out as a general contractor after serving in the Army, making first lieutenant in infantry during World War I. He got involved with the Moline Plowboys and was elected president in November 1919. He moved on to the St. Joseph Saints from 1923 to 1925. Branch Rickey then hired Giles to be president of the Syracuse Stars in 1926-1927, then Rochester Red Wings until 1936. Giles was General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds from 1936 to 1951 and National League president from 1951 to 1969. He is also the father of Phillies owner Bill Giles. Francis Joseph Shaughnessy was born in 1883 in Amboy, IL and died in 1969 in Montreal, CAN. He went to college at the University of Notre Dame. He played major league baseball from 1905 to 1908 as outfielder for the Washington Senators (1 game) and the Philadelphia Athletics (8 games). Shag Shaughnessy, more famous for his work as a manager and executive, was in the American League in 1905 and 1908. He played minor league baseball between 1903 and 1924, often as a player-manager. He played football, baseball, and ran track at Notre Dame. He was head football coach for Clemson University for one year in 1907. In 1928, he was a coach for the Detroit Tigers. He managed for 19 years in the minor leagues between 1909 and 1936, compiling a 1148-1012 record. He was General Manager for the Montreal Royals from 1932 to 1934, then was President of the International League from 1936 to 1960. In that role, he was the innovator of a long-used playoff system known as the Shaughnessy Playoffs. In 1947 he was named as part of the inaugural class of the International League Hall of Fame. William Reed Summers was born in 1895 in Harrison, NJ and died in 1966 in Upton, MA. Bill Summers was a professional umpire for 38 years. He began his career in the Eastern League from 1921 to 1932, and the International League in 1932, before debuting in the American League in 1933. As an American league arbiter, Summers represented the league at the All-Star Game a record seven times. He also worked 47 games over eight World Series. His final game in blue was the last game of the 1959 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. SKU: L14548
