Thurman Tucker, Cleveland centerfielder, wears glasses on the playing field. In the eighth inning of today's final World Series game against the Boston Braves, he sought ot sneak home as Spahn caught Robinson off first base with a snap throw to Torgeson. The latter whipped the ball back to catcher Salkeld who trapped Tucker between third and home. In the rundown between Salkeld and Elliott, Tucker bumped heavily into the Braves backstop, and broke his glasses. Thereafter he was an easy out. The game was held up until other specs could be obtained. Pictures show moment when Tucker rammed into Salkeld. In (1) he approaches the catcher as (2) ball beats him to Salkeld's glove. No. 3 shows the collision and No. 4 and No. 5 shows Tucker and Salkeld spinning away from each other, but not before the latter tagged the runner. In No. 6, Tucker is turning almost a complete somersault. Thurman Lowell Tucker (Joe E.) was born in Gordon, TX and died in 1993 in Oklahoma City, OK. He played major league baseball from 1942 to 1951 as outfielder for the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians, appeared in the 1948 World Series, and was selected once as an All-Star.
