BIO: Marvin August Rickert (Twitch) was born in 1921 in Longbranch, WA and died in 1978 in Oakville, WA. He played major league baseball from 1942 to 1950 as outfielder and 1st baseman for the Chicago Cubs, Boston Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox, and appeared in the 1948 World Series. After baseball Rickert worked as a charter boat operator and was employed by the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department.
Kenneth Frederick Keltner (Butch) was born in Milwaukee, WI and died in 1991 in New Berlin, WI. He played major league baseball from 1937 to 1950 as 3rd baseman for the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox, appeared in the 1948 World Series, and was selected 7 times as an All-Star. Keltner was the subject of a brief campaign for the Baseball Hall of Fame. While he was never a popular candidate, his candidacy gave rise to the Keltner List of writer Bill James - a list of questions designed to guide thinking on the Hall of Fame.
William Harold Southworth was born in Harvard, NE and died in 1969 in Columbus, OH. He played major league baseball from 1913 to 1929 as outfielder for the Cleveland Naps, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, New York Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals, appeared in the 1924 and 1926 World Series, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008. Southworth also managed the Cardinals in 1929 as well as 1940-45 and the Boston Braves from 1946-51.
Herbie Scharfman was born in 1912 and died in 1998. A photographer for International News, The New York Mirror and the Brooklyn Dodgers in his earlier days, Scharfman became one of the greatest sports photographers of his generation. His works have been made famous throughout the pages and covers of Sports Illustrated ever since the magazine's inception.
